Blackjack strategy is an integral part of the game – without strategy you’re playing blind. As a general rule, it is not advisable to take insurance and most every Blackjack expert will tell you the same thing. The reason why insurance is a bad idea is that nothing is really being ‘insured’. You are actually taking out an additional wager at 2:1 odds at half your original bet that the dealer has a 10-value hole card. But since you already wagered to play the game, if the dealer doesn’t have a 10 value card, you only break even if you’re correct!

Did you know?

There is a Blackjack Hall of fame at the Barona Casino in San Diego. It was launched in 2002 and honours blackjack experts, authors and professional players who have made significant contributions to the game.

BLACKJACK FEATURES SEVERAL OTHER POSSIBLE OPTIONS FOR PLAYERS INCLUDING:

  • Split – Splitting pairs and playing them as individual hands
  • Hit – Opting for another card
  • Stand – Standing on your current hand total
  • Double – Doubling your wager and taking one final card

With Blackjack strategy charts you will find out just how easy it is to know when to Hit, when to Stand, when to Double and when to Split. Consider the chart below for a moment:

Your hand total is represented by the column on the left. You can see that it begins with an 8 and ends with a pair of Aces (A, A). The next column over represents the dealer’s upcard. Recall that only one of the dealer’s cards is showing and the other is face down. To see what actions you are supposed to take based on what you and the dealer are holding, simply scroll across the table.

For example:

  • If you are holding 11 and the dealer’s upcard is a 9, you Double.
  • If you are holding an Ace and a 2 and the dealer’s upcard is a 10, you are advised to Hit.
  • If you are holding a pair of 9s and the dealer’s upcard is a 7, you are advised to Stand.
